Cheers TEW Five: See Our New Design Studio
To put it lightly, 2020 has been chock-full of change. In February, we began our move to a larger design studio we’d been planning for months. Just like that, before we even moved in, the world shut down. We put our grand opening plans on hold and pivoted our focus on how to adapt to this new way of living and working.
Fast-forward to today. As families prepare for an atypical Thanksgiving, the TEW team enters the holiday season grateful to celebrate our 5-year anniversary. We’re so proud of the relationships we’ve built. In honor of our anniversary, I’d like to invite you into our new design studio.
The focus of our space is geared around showing clients unique furnishing, finishes and materials from trusted suppliers we’ve built relationships with over the years. As you enter, you’re greeted with a seating area where we showcase two customizable sofas, made in nearby Hickory, N.C. A wallpaper mural grounds our reception space with a welcoming focal point. A smart media storage console is used to hide electronic components within our designs, while still being functional. We love that this area serves as a flex meeting and work space, as well.
When I started TEW Design Studio five years ago out of my dining room table, I envisioned an approachable, yet bold design firm. One where the focus isn’t on transactions, but rather long-term and trusting relationships between designer and client. I’m so proud to see this vision turn into reality today. TEW has the most amazing team of diverse women supporting all of our clients’ design goals, and we have a space that truly reflects who we are as an award-winning design firm.
Continuing the tour, our conference room boasts a dramatic built-in cabinet in charcoal painted oak, with a locally made live-edge table to give the space a natural feel. The table is surrounded with iconic ghost dining chairs, made of polycarbonate to reflect natural light and take up no visual space. They’re super comfortable, too!
By adding wallpaper behind the TV, the built-in offers the illusion of a 3-D texture that beautifully frames our design presentations, while the dark color conceals the TV at first glance. Sleek dimmable LED lighting is routed into the open shelving units and gives a beautiful striking detail. The lighting is controlled by a touch switch hidden within the cabinetry walls. Just a glimpse of the possibilities that we can implement in your home or business.

For our library, organization is imperative. As an interior design studio, we have more samples than we know what to do with! It’s important that we maximize storage, which we know you can appreciate. All shelves are adjustable and evolve with our needs. In the island, we store tile samples in the drawers and have open shelving on the opposite side to store catalogs. We finished this walnut color island with a waterfall top and contrasting inlay made of Dekton ultracompact sintered stone, the most technologically advanced multi-use surface available. For additional task lighting, we added two natural woven jute chandeliers to soften what is a very geometric space. We use this island to pull samples together and collaborate as a team on design concepts.

For the back walls of our studio, we collaborated with local artist, Claire Daniel. Since we knew blank walls just wouldn’t do, Claire was able to capture the playfulness yet sophistication we were after. We’re so happy with the end result.
Last but not least, I’m excited to give you a peek at our dreamy kitchen that shows you the limitless possibilities of our cabinet line. From smart storage solutions and a concrete-look farmhouse sink, to fun colors, solid walnut interior, and hidden small-appliance storage, our design studio kitchen tells a story about our unique, out-of-the-box, approach to interior design. Full kitchen reveal coming soon in its own blog entry!
Thank you for the virtual visit to our design studio! We invite you to reach out to visit us in-person one day soon. Also, stay tuned as we have fun surprises in store for you over the next year. We’ll roll out the first of our 5th Anniversary promotions post-Thanksgiving!
