For this 1890s home in Chapel Hill, NC, our clients wanted a thoughtful refresh that honored the history of the house while introducing better flow and modern functionality. TEW Design Studio reimagined key spaces–including the kitchen, mudroom, and both bathrooms–using durable, elevated materials and subtle nods to the homeowners’ personal style. Upstairs, interior designer Janae Alston brought a fresh perspective to the primary bath, layering clean lines, organic materials, and a calm, collected palette for a personal retreat.

Design Highlights

• History-Loving Layouts – Select floorplans were redesigned for better flow, with an intentional nod to the home’s original architecture–especially meaningful to our historian client
• Whimsy in the Everyday – Dandelion wallpaper in the mudroom offers a cheerful pause in a hardworking space
• Hidden Gems – Built-ins near the dining area include a custom coffee bar and a magnetic wall for personal keepsakes
• Classic, Upgraded – The kitchen and bathrooms balance durable materials and custom detailing with he warmth of a well-loved home
• Serene Ensuite Design – Janae’s work on the upstairs bath brought in texture, light, and a sense of ease.
