Sourwood: Midcentury Chapel Hill Kitchen Remodel
This Chapel Hill, N.C. mid-century residence had attractive but quirky 1950s features along with cramped configurations and disconnected rooms. The kitchen remodel reconfigured the space for more function, improved natural lighting, and better flow between rooms.

Design Highlights
- Standout wood veining – we intentionally designed the wood cabinets in the kitchen to make continuous lines creating a custom, intentional look
- Fireplace focal point – restoring the original fireplace, we updated the mantel and brick to fit the mid-century architecture
- Natural light all day – we accentuated the high windows to allow for as much natural light as possible on rear-facing windows. No window treatments needed, let the light in!
- Pops of color – in the primary shower, we added in a mustard yellow shower niche for some visual interest to contrast against the white and black color palette.
