When our team at TEW Design Studio was approached to put the finishing touches on this stunning new home, we were thrilled to take on the challenge. The homeowners, being creatives themselves, envisioned a space that balanced their style with natural elements, incorporated their beloved art collection, and respected the unique architecture of their custom-designed home. Having custom-built their home with In Situ Studio, these clients brought to life a modern design, intended to blend in and become one with the surrounding scenery with mindful design choices. From furniture and art to color palettes and textures, each decision was carefully calculated to add character without outshining the beautiful architecture of the home.
This project encompassed several key areas of the home: the main living room, two office spaces, the dining room, the kitchen, the outdoor deck, the hallway, three bedrooms, and the basement. Each space posed its unique design challenges, and through mindful decision-making, we were able to achieve a cohesive and inviting environment.
The master bedroom epitomizes mindful design. A green geometric wood wallpaper not only ties in with the living roof view accessible from the primary bedroom but also reflects natural light beautifully. The bed, with its soft curves and cozy textures, contrasts sharply with the angular backdrop, creating a balanced aesthetic. One of our proudest contributions is the hempwood nightstand from our in-house line, TEWlines, which embodies sustainability and bespoke design.
The curved wall in the guest bedroom posed a unique challenge, but it inspired creative solutions. By carefully adjusting the layout, we were able to fit a queen-sized bed with an upholstered headboard and incorporate ample storage through nightstands and a dresser. In the end, we achieved a layout that felt functional and elegant while respecting the architecture.
Under the staircase to the master bedroom, we worked with Miami-based artist Ana Maria Mariani to commission a colorful textile sculpture. This highly collaborative process allowed our clients to have input on every detail, from yarn placements to color choices, resulting in a vibrant and deeply personal addition to the home.
The sculpture seamlessly complements the clients’ existing art collection, creating a cohesive narrative that celebrates their passion for vibrant, meaningful pieces. By thoughtfully curating and integrating their treasured artworks, we ensured the home felt uniquely personal and reflective of their style.
With the dining table already commissioned through a friend of the clients, our team focused on selecting complementary seating. Sage green chairs provided a subtle touch of color while letting the table take center stage.
In the upstairs living room, a large sectional provides spacious seating, while a statement reading chair strikes the balance between comfort and intrigue. The paint colors, selected during the building process, were enhanced with thoughtfully chosen furnishings to elevate the space.
The basement presented an opportunity to repurpose furniture the clients already owned, paired with mindful design choices for a refreshed look. The space’s moody color palette was balanced with lighter furnishings, a relaxed sectional for lounging, and a curved solid wood gathering table that echoed the natural and architectural themes found throughout the home.
The outdoor deck was designed with simplicity in mind. Durable, easy-to-clean furniture ensures functionality, while the pop of green in the coffee table brings an unexpected burst of color, tying the exterior design to the natural elements surrounding the home.
This home’s curved walls, natural light, and unique layout presented challenges that pushed our team to innovate. By embracing the architecture and respecting its natural elements, we made mindful design choices that highlight the sharp lines and soft curves of the home, telling a cohesive visual story.
